Here's Your Science!

  • Petrichor Collective 131 East Lincoln Avenue Fort Collins, CO, 80524 United States (map)

Welcome to Here's Your Science, a community-based program that focuses on breaking down science simply, and then building it back up! Hosted by Dominique Montano.

Topic for this session: It's Just a Theory: Scientific Theory, Human Theory, Conspiracy Theory, and the Necessity of Understanding Evidence

No registration required.

How can we get more information on scientific topics, new evidence, or just break science down to the basics and build it back up to the complex?

Rather than solely a lecture, engage in dialogue with panelists and educators and connect with other community members.

Whether you’re big on science or aren’t so familiar, bring your curiosity, investigate and explore as you dive into the processes of inquiry to truly follow today’s science!

The series functions to involve community and build community, and everyone who has a willingness to learn, no matter their age or background, is welcome to join! We recommend bringing a notebook or laptop to source data or articles, but will also provide paper and notebooks (and sometimes snacks)!

This series has two purposes:

1.) Create a space where people willing to learn can be vulnerable and learn scientific topics they know a lot about, or know nothing about.
2.) Empower communities with tools and resources to enhance their scientific skills, evidence skills, and critical thinking skills.

How Will The Series Run? Is It Just Someone Talking At Me?
Think of it as a hybrid class! Rather than solely a lecture, the series will function to involve audience dialogue, questions, and have the audience and panelists work together to find evidence, practice small experiments, work with data, or delve through scientific thinking processes. The class can go wherever the community wants it to go! Each class will have information surrounding the topic and its history, current evidence, and new science, but is able to be flexible with audience needs and questions. Learning should be learner focused!

Who is Invited? What If I Don't Know Anything About the Topic?

That's exactly who should come! Whether you know a lot or a little about a topic, you'd be surprised how much gets lost in the weeds, and we'll have a balance of information for all ages and levels of knowledge! Come in to just learn and talk about the topic, and the old and new science that surrounds it, building your ability to also talk about science! From K-12 to adult to senior citizens, we want to build a community of all people!

What Should I Bring? Will There Be Snacks?

An open mind willing to learn new information, or expand on other information! If you have a laptop, bring it to source and see some of our interactive parts of the session.
